"Smith is back with the Dolphins following a career year in which he finished top 5 among tight ends in targets, receptions, yards, fantasy points and touchdowns. This after never finishing better than 15th in the former four categories during his first seven NFL seasons. Smith's season actually started slowly (4.9 targets per game and one game with 12-plus fantasy points during Weeks 1-10), but he averaged 8.5 targets and a position-high 18.6 PPG from Week 11 on. Smith's career resume suggests a return to earth could be in the cards, but he should continue to benefit from defenses playing two-high safeties at the league's highest rate in order to slow down Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Smith is safest as a fringe TE1."


"McDaniel said he "wouldn't get into personal matters" concerning Smith's absence, per C. Isaiah Smalls II of the Miami Herald, which comes in the wake of the tight end having expressed his desire for a reworked contract and subsequently being floated as a trade candidate. Smith broke out with a career-best 88-884-8 receiving line (111 targets) across 17 regular-season appearances with the Dolphins in 2024, establishing himself as a focal point of the passing game despite the presence of both Tyreek Hill (wrist) and Jaylen Waddle. He's heading into the final season of his two-year deal with Miami and is slated to carry just a $3.49 million base salary and $4.6 million cap hit for 2025, lesser figures than the likes of Austin Hooper, Will Dissly and Josh Oliver. It's possible Smith's holdout continues indefinitely if the Dolphins don't acquiesce to a contract adjustment that at least somewhat reflects his 2024 production."

"Hunt re-signed with the Chiefs following a successful reunion with the team last season. He stepped in for an injured Isiah Pacheco in Week 4 and went on to average 21.5 touches, 89.0 yards and 14.8 fantasy points over the next eight games. Pacheco returned in Week 13 and then neither were viable fantasy options from that point forward, as they were near even in snaps, carries and targets, with Samaje Perine also in the mix as a passing-down specialist. Hunt was not particularly effective as a rusher or receiver and he's now 30 years old, so it's fair to expect a healthy Pacheco to lead this backfield in 2025. Hunt is only a late-round consideration."


"Hunt joined Kansas City last September in the wake of an early-season IR stint for Isiah Pacheco due to a fractured fibula. He served as the team's starter for a stretch and then split backfield reps with Pacheco once the latter returned to the lineup, up through the Chiefs' loss to Philadelphia in Super Bowl LIX. Hunt concluded the regular season with 200 carries for 728 yards and seven scores across 13 appearances, plus 23 catches for 176 yards through the air (32 targets). A full offseason to get back to 100 percent form may allow Pacheco to reclaim a firm grasp on the lead role of the Chiefs' backfield, which also added speedster Elijah Mitchell in free agency, but Hunt's solid showing in 2024 figures to leave him in position for a solid amount of complementary snaps. The exact pecking order of Kansas City's rushing attack may not gain clarity until training camp and/or the preseason."

"Atwell re-signed with the Rams during the offseason and is set to enter his fifth season with the team. The 2021 second-round pick has seen a progressive increase in receptions and yardage during each pro season, though he hasn't quite lived up to his Day 2 draft selection pedigree. Atwell has yet to post a top-60 fantasy campaign and, after failing to find the end zone in 2024, he has a total of five scores in 54 career games. Sean McVay has said that he will deploy Atwell more often moving forward, but the undersized 25-year-old remains well behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams in terms of target priority. Atwell is not a fantasy option."


""I haven't done a good enough job of utilizing him," McVay said. "When you look at the times when he's been able to play, whether that be because some people were out or not, he has produced and he's delivered, and we're looking forward to seeing more of that ascension. He's going to be on the field a lot more, particularly in a lot of those three-receiver sets." With the ouster of Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson's exit in free agency coupled with the signing of Davante Adams, the Rams are expected to field a three-wide set of Puka Nacua, Adams and Atwell in 2025. As McVay noted, Atwell was particularly impressive on a per-snap basis last season, posting a strong 2.24 yards-per-route. He'll be worth following this summer ahead of fantasy drafts as a potential late-round option."
